This is the 2nd edition of the Stav Church Christmas Ornaments and features the Urnes Stav Church in Sogn, Norway. It was built in approximately 1130, although significant parts of the church come from an even earlier church, probably built around 1060.
The Urnes Stav Church represents a high point in Stav Church architecture. Its 16 freestanding decorated columns and accentuated arches created a lofty elongated central space that allowed a clerestory. Amazingly, this surpasses the construction technology of the Romanesque Basilica Churches being built at that time.
Each Limited Edition Ornament is made on a 2.5" flat porcelain disk and hand decorated in delicate Scandinavian Blue and White.
