The 4th edition of the Stav Church Christmas Ornaments features the massive Heddal Stav Church in Telemark, Norway, constructed around 1150.
The Heddal Stav Church was enlarged several times after its construction, until it became one of the largest and most lavishly embellished of all the Stav churches. Historians and tourists alike refer to it as "The Wooden Cathedral of Norway."
The Heddal Stav Church is perhaps the culmination of the long-naved centralized style of architecture in the Stav Church design. After this point, newer construction techniques and European influences began to influence Stav Church architecture.
Each limited edition ornament is made on a 2.5" flat porcelain disk and hand decorated in delicate Scandinavian blue and white.
