This is the 10th edition of the Stav Church Christmas Ornaments and features the Grip Stav Church, built on the Island of Grip in Nordmore, Norway in 1470.
This church has served as a refuge for many people. In 1515, it provided shelter to the Archbishop of Nidros and a young Dutch princess who would later become the wife of Christian II. As thanks for the hospitality provided by the church, the new queen ordered artisans to paint a triptych of the Virgin Mary, St. Olaf and St. Margaret. Five years later, the Archbishop installed the triptych in the Grip church where it can be seen today.
Each Limited Edition Ornament is made on a 2.5" flat porcelain disk and hand decorated in delicate Scandinavian Blue and White.
