The twenty-eighth edition of the Norwegian Stav Christmas Ornament features the Hegge church. This church is located on a quiet Norwegian fjord near Ostre Slidre, Valdres. The original church dates back to 1200.
There have been numerous reconstructions and extensions of the church over the years. Yet there are many details still visible like the the two carved portals depicting vine and dragon motifs and the interior entrance portal with its massive ornate ironwork, lock and key. These date from the 1203's and along with the original 8 "masts" in the nave give us a good glimpse into its past. It still is used for special events and services.
