Originally Candy Canes were all white and had just a sugar taste. That all changed when Amalia Eriksson in 1859, an inhabitant of the little town of Gränna, started making candy sticks after her husband died. Her small business grew quickly as people began to taste her Pepperminty Treats. She kept the recipe secret, and was the only one to make the red and white swirly candy sticks that soon became a successful business that was passed on through the family till current times. All travellers on their way between Gothenburg and Stockholm would stop by the little shop in Gränna to get their supply of Christmas. The recipe has become the property of the town of Garnna and in Scandinavia they are the only licensed purveyor of the now iconic Peppermint Sticks. They now ship them world wide for the Holidays.
Christmas is not complete without some of our Original Granna Polkagris Sticks. Supply is limited and we always sell out.
